After the earthquake in Haiti displaced over 1.5 million, billions of foreign aid poured in to help, much of that aid going to USAID. The problem? 67% of that money went directly to American contractors hired to do work in Haiti, rather than Haitians themselves. The Red Cross also collected nearly half a billion dollars, and yet investigations into the organization later found that they couldn’t account for where that money was spent.
