United will add 25,000 flights in August and resume approximately 50 domestic routes.
The carrier will fly 48% of its 2019 domestic capacity in August compared to just 30% in July. United will fly 25% of its 2019 international schedule in August compared with 16% in July.
United vice president of domestic network planning Ankit Gupta said the increases are data driven.
“Hope is not a strategy,” he said on a Wednesday call.
But Gupta also said that demand has flattened over the past week as the U.S. sees its most new daily Covid-19 cases to date.
In August, United will still do most flying from mid-continent hubs in Chicago, Denver and Houston. But the carrier will also double its daily flight count from Newark.
United will place around 90 aircraft back in service. The aircraft will facilitate more flights to mountain destinations such as Aspen, Colo., and Bozeman, Mont., as well as more flights to Hawaii, the Caribbean and Mexico.
In Europe, United will beef up its schedule to connecting hubs of Lufthansa Group partners, including Brussels, Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich. Resumed Asian routes will include Tahiti and Delhi. The carrier also will add five routes to Canada and 35 routes to Latin America, said vice president of international network and alliances Patrick Quayle.
