United Nations World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) Global has invited Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt to serve as a special ambassador for the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s Global Conference on Jobs and Inclusive growth through sustainable tourism which will take place on Nov 27 to 29 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
This will be the first time that UNWTO will hold a global conference on tourism in the Caribbean or the Americas.
In order to increase awareness about the impact that tourists have on places they visit, UNWTO declared the year 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
The main object of the conference is to initiate discussions for forming private-public partnerships that will help in supporting the development and funding the sustainable tourism efforts globally.
Jamaica Tourist Board said that Bolt’s presence as UNWTO ambassador will help them attain their goal of sustainable tourism worldwide and this will also help Jamaica’s and Caribbean tourism.
“We look forward to showcasing our destination within the context of sustainability and the building of private-public partnerships,” said Jamaica Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett.
