Earlier this summer, Lyft began testing a feature allowing riders to schedule rides up to 24 hours in advance. Not to be outdone, Uber quickly followed suit and took the feature a step further, allowing riders to schedule rides between 30 minutes and 30 days in advance.
Scheduled Rides was originally only available to riders in Seattle, but now the service has expanded to several more major cities across the nation, including Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago, as of this week. Uber said that after the initial launch, the feature would be expanding to other “top business travel cities,” but riders in college towns like Ann Arbor, Michigan and well as Bloomington and South Bend, Indiana have access to the feature, so check your app to see if Scheduled Rides has come to your home town.
Scheduled Rides is a great feature for anyone — from business travelers heading to the airport before dawn to suburban families catching a flight for spring break. Remember to use a credit card that will maximize dollars spent on each ride, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve, which earns 3x points for travel expenses, including Uber. If you don’t already have an Uber account, you can sign up now to receive a free ride from TPG.
