UnCruise Adventures said it will set sail in Alaska Saturday, becoming the first overnight passenger line to cruise U.S. waters since the Covid-19 pandemic shut down global travel in March.
The company said its Wilderness Adventurer is set to depart Juneau with 37 passengers and 30 crew for its seven-night Glacier Bay Adventure itinerary.
The company has capped occupancy at 66% and has adopted new health and safety protocols, including daily temperature checks and physical distancing. Alaska also requires visitors to provide proof of a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of arrival.
UnCruise said it has five Glacier Bay Adventure departures scheduled this season with strong occupancy.
While the Wilderness Adventurer will be the first small ship to sail in Alaska this summer, a second small ship operator, Alaskan Dream, said it also plans to launch Alaska cruises in August.
