Come June 12, 2018, world leaders US President Donald Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un will meet for the first time, a historical gathering of the two.
Kim Jong Un will travel a significant distance out of his comfort zone (Singapore is 4,828km from Pyongyang) on his Soviet-made long-range craft, the Ilyushin-62, and Trump will travel even further on the Air Force One, the US President’s plane.
Both are expected to land at Singapore’s Paya Lebar Air Base, a military airbase of the Republic of Singapore Air Force, due to security reasons.

It remains to be seen what the outcome of the forthcoming meeting will be, as both leaders are notoriously unpredictable, but Kim Jong Un has said it would be a positive step towards a “good future” on the Korean Peninsula.
It is also hoped that there will be successful talks about the complete denuclearization of the peninsula and a formal peace treaty to end the Korean War.
Here are some of the likely venues for the Trump-Kim historic handshake:
Marina Bay Sands
Owned by Las Vegas Sands Corp Chairman and CEO Sheldon G. Adelson, Marina Bay Sands is an integrated resort and a premier entertainment destination with its vibrant diversity of attractions.
Marina Bay Sands screams luxury with its floor-to-ceiling windows offering magnificent views of Singapore’s glittering city district.
It also boasts the world’s highest and longest infinity pool with its unrivaled panoramic views

Also, Mr. Adelson happens to be one of Trump’s mega-donors, having donated to Trump’s campaign for president in a big way.
The billionaire flushed a whopping total of US$25 million just a week before the US’ 2016 election day.
Perhaps Trump would want to pay it forward by holding the meeting there and giving the hotel priceless international publicity?
Shangri-La Hotel
Luxury five-star hotel Shangri-La as a top contender is a no-brainer.
Located just a couple of minutes away from Singapore’s bustling shopping central, Orchard Road, Shangri-La Hotel could be the perfect hideaway for a high-profile meet to happen.
Furthermore, Shangri-La Hotel is quite a pro at handling high-security events by now, having hosted the Shangri-La Dialogue year after year.
For the uninitiated, the dialogue is region’s most important defense forum attended by heads of state, defense ministers, and high-level military officials.
Sentosa Island
One of Singapore’s proudest projects, Sentosa is a man-made island off the country’s southern coast. It’s connected to the city by road, cable car, pedestrian boardwalk, and monorail.
There truly is never a dull moment on Sentosa Island, which receives some 20 million visitors per year.
It boasts attractions such as a 2km-long sheltered beach, restaurants and bars, two golf courses, Madame Tussauds Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium, and Resorts World Sentosa featuring Universal Studios Singapore.
Situated on 30-acres of lush grounds and gardens, Capella Singapore has 112 manors, suites and guestrooms. The Club at Capella Singapore features 81 serviced apartments, penthouses, and manors. Source: Booking.com.
Sentosa is also home to 14 hotels, including the ultra-luxurious Capella Singapore, the sleek W Singapore, and the five-star The Sentosa Resort & Spa.
The island’s tranquility and relaxing surroundings, as well as its controlled environment, is also a major appeal for high-level meets.
Meanwhile, according to The Straits Times, rooms at Shangri-La Hotel and Marina Bay Sands on the dates surrounding the summit have been snapped up.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will likely be accompanied by his sister Kim Yo Jong, who shot to fame after attending the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang in February, when he arrives in Singapore next month.
