Here at The Points Guy, travel is our top priority and we all have a few places we’d still love to cross off our travel bucket lists. From climbing the Swiss Alps to relaxing on the beaches of Thailand, here are all the places TPG staffers’ dream vacations are made of.
“My dream is a month-long trip across the South Pacific, scuba diving and exploring tiny islands while living aboard a yacht.”— Brian Kelly, The Points Guy
“I’d love to recreate the epic backpacking adventure my mom and her friends did in the late-1970s. For about a year and a half, they ventured from Ireland all the way to Greece and Israel before teaching English in Madrid. Ideally, I’d take her with me so I could see these cities through her eyes and get a feel for how much things have changed since she was there. We’re starting slow, with a trip to Athens, Crete and Santorini this fall.” — Kaeli Conforti, Senior Editor
“My dream trip is a month hiking and exploring the Norwegian Fjords, including some quality time in Bremen and, depending on the year, a visit to Tromsø, — either for the Northern Lights or 24 hours of sunlight.”— Zach Honig, Editor-at-Large
“Ideally, I would go exploring the Mediterranean by boat for two months. I’d start in Barcelona, make my way to the South of France to see Cannes and Nice, then over to Italy for the stunning Amalfi Coast. After making my way around Italy, I’d make a pit stop in Venice and wander through the canals. From there, I’d spend some time in Croatia and then end the trip exploring the Greek Islands.” — Brendan Dorsey, Assistant Editor
“There are so many places I want to go to but my dream trip is to Southeast Asia — especially Bali and Bangkok. I need to stuff my face with a giant bowl of Pad Thai.”— Samantha Rosen, Social Media Editor
“All the chatter about overwater bungalows has worked its way into the synapses of my wanderlust. So now I want to go a remote tropical island and see the ocean under my feet and fall asleep to the gentle sounds of real waves (instead of the faux calming reproductions in my sleep-aid iPad app). I’ve got Hilton Diamond status so maybe the Conrad Bora Bora Nui Resort and Spa — a Category 9 property?” — James Cury, VP, Editorial
“I’ve been dying for an extended Africa trip, highlighted by a few weeks in Namibia — from spending time in the Namibian desert to a safari in Tanzania and seeing the stunning stature of the baobabs in Madagascar. Between the wildlife, culture and natural beauty, I don’t think I’d ever be able to top this trip.” — Emily McNutt, Associate Editor
“I’d love to spend two months or more exploring some of Southeast Asia. At the top of my list for exploration are Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and the Philippines. The only place I’ve been in the region is Hong Kong, so I’m eager to see more of that beautiful part of the world. The combination of frenetic, vibrant cities — like Ho Chi Minh City and Manila — and stunning natural beauty in places like Ha Long Bay make it especially alluring to me.” — Nick Ellis, Assistant Editor
“My dream trip? A month climbing in the Swiss Alps, culminating in the 14,800-feet Weisshorn. I’ve climbed a few 4,000-meter peaks in the Alps but never this one — it’s tougher than most. One day!” — Alberto Riva, Managing Editor
“I’ve been eager to do some island hopping in the leeward islands of the Caribbean, specifically St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which are ideal for yachting, sailing, scuba diving and sunbathing. These islands offer so much, from the white-sand beaches to the black-sand beaches and the beautiful views. Ideally, I’d spend all my days exploring the 32 islands and cays.” — Alexa Noel, Editorial Intern
“I’d love to spend two months visiting some of East Asia. I’d want to fly to Japan during cherry blossom season and tour Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. After two or three weeks, I’d hop on a plane to Vietnam — specifically Hanoi, where I’d make my trip to the spectacular Ha Long Bay and then head down south to Bai Dai Beach on Cam Ranh Bay for some much-needed relaxation before finishing in Ho Chi Minh City. Afterward, I’d follow in TPG’s footsteps and fly Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong, where I’d — still obviously dreaming here — stay on the 110th floor of The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong and spend several days exploring and eating. I’d close out my trip with a day of utter nerdiness: plane spotting near Chek Lap Kok (HKG), watching arrivals and departures. For my return, I’d redeem Alaska miles for a one-way first-class ticket on Cathay Pacific for the 16-hour haul back to NYC.” — Wallace Cotton, Community Manager
“My dream vacation is a trip to Kyoto and Tokyo. Japan has been #1 on my travel wish list for a while now and I’ve decided that cherry blossom season is the time to go. I’d like to hit Kyoto for said flower viewing — plus bamboo forests, shrines and temples. Then, on to Tokyo to live out some of my food fantasies, shop and experience all things kawaii.” — Cindy Augustine, Freelance Editor
“I would love to take a (chartered) boat down the Amazon River in Brazil and work my way down through the various terrains. I think this would be the trip of a lifetime, and the opportunity to see species of plants and animals that only exist there would be amazing.” — Jeff Preis, Editorial Intern
