Palawan is known for its rugged green mountains towering above striking turquoise waters, colorful coral beds, shipwreck dive sites, and an eight-kilometer stretch of underground river. Visitors can paddle through the underground limestone caverns for an island experience like no other.
The island is also a favorite among the Hollywood A-list including Madonna, Brad Pitt, Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz and Patrick Adams. Bill Gates was also reported to have visited the island with his family. The archipelago of islands has been featured in films such as The Bourne Legacy, The Beach and The World Is Not Enough.
In second and sixth places on the list are also Philippines islands, albeit more commercial ones: Boracay and Cebu respectively.
The Philippines is home to about 7,000 tropical islands which contributes to about 10 percent of the country’s gross domestic product. By 2026, international tourist arrivals are forecast to hit 9.19 million, generating an expenditure of about US$12.3 billion. Meanwhile, the Philippine travel and tourism industry supported 1.3 million jobs in 2015.
