THIS ELECTION SEASON has exposed the many forms of corruption in our country’s voting system. Yet one of the biggest ways our system manages to disempower voters is not being talked about nearly enough: gerrymandering. Gerrymandering gives politicians the power to draw the districts where they will serve. This essentially allows politicians to choose the voters that will vote for them in elections. As the video says, this means that a politician “doesn’t ever have to talk to a voter who doesn’t already agree with him.”
The solution? States could no longer allow politicians to draw their own voting districts, and instead put this responsibility in the hands of a nonpartisan committee. Watch the video to learn more.
