THE DANNA LANGKAWI sits comfortably on the sandy beach of Telaga Harbour, set against a stunning backdrop of steep tropical cliffs and ancient forest canopies.
If you ever needed proof that The Danna Langkawi is a well-loved property on the island, it’s been a winner of the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice for many consecutive years.
It has also bagged titles in the Service and Romance categories, and is named the Top Hotel and No. 1 Luxury Hotel in Malaysia in the 2015 and 2016 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice. To top it all off, the hotel is also the only property to earn a spot in the Asia Top 25 in Top Hotel and Luxury Hotel categories.
All rooms are graced with views of the waters
All rooms at The Danna Langkawi boast great views of the sea, the marina, the terrace, or the hills, as well as a balcony where you can soak in Langkawi’s surrounding serenity. Another quirky feature is that the rooms take on colonial naming conventions – Merchant, Marina, Viceroy, and Duchess are just some of the monikers attached to different level rooms.
One of the best things about The Danna Langkawi is its infinity pool – said to be the biggest one on the island. The poolside experience ensures you’re well taken care of while idling by the water – from noon to 4pm, staff will serve you water, ice cream, sodas and local snacks, as well as cleaning your sunglasses if needed.
For a more filling meal, The Planter’s chefs provide a wonderful outdoor barbeque on several evenings with an outstanding combination of local signature meat, seafood dishes and Indian cuisine.
The Danna’s barbecue highlight is the grilled slipper lobster spruced with fresh lime juice, and washed down with the recommended Chilean Sauvignon Blanc.
Straits & Co is known for its hi-tea
Straits & Co, located on the opposite side of the main house, adds depth to the dining options; as does the hotel’s iconic gathering place, known as The Verandah. Straits & Co is known for its hi-tea, which guests can devour as they overlook the sea alongside dozens of goldfish that swim in the zen-like garden pool. The cakes here are delicious, the highlight being the most delicate scones tried outside of Cornwall in the UK.
Meanwhile, The Verandah is a stunning colonial-style lounge, designed to feel as intimate as it looks magnificent. It became our haunt in the evenings with great live entertainment and friendly staff, who always looked pleased to see us as we indulged in our evening nightcap.
The Danna encourages relaxation, health, wellness and discovery. Guests can expect to enjoy soothing features like deep-soaking, rainfall showers in guest rooms, private balconies and wonderful views.
The Danna Spa has panoramic views of the adjacent marina
You can also pick from various massage treatments at The Danna Spa, located on the top floor of the hotel with panoramic views of the adjacent marina. The masseuses were as knowledgeable as they were adept in their trade, while the detox teas and patient service left us feeling completely relaxed.
If you’d like to get out and about during your stay, it only takes a five-minute taxi ride to reach the famous cable car, where you can soar 2,170 feet above sea level towards the Sky Deck. Overall, this is a must-see part of any trip to Langkawi – but not for the faint-hearted or those who fear heights. It provides stunning panoramic views and a clear insight to the geography and topography of this beautiful island.
One of the great benefits of visiting Langkawi is the island’s unique duty-free status. This contributes to some of the most reasonable alcohol range we’ve seen at a five-star resort. All things considered, The Danna Langkawi is a rare combination of class, luxury and outstanding value.
