THAILAND’S flag carrier Thai Airways International (THAI) has plans to reintroduce its direct flight service to the US after a five-year hiatus.
Despite the airline suffering losses on their Los Angeles service five years ago, THAI is confident that the new route will be a key selling point for them because demand for the service is rising, and no other airline operates direct flights between the US and Bangkok.
THAI president Charamporn Jotikasthira said, “The service will be the first non-stop flight from Bangkok without stopping over in Korea or Japan like before.”
The Bangkok Post reported that the airline halted its non-stop flight service from Bangkok to New York in 2008 and its Los Angeles route four years later due to losses. Seattle or San Francisco will likely be the new destination of the service.
However, THAI will have to await the lifting of the US ban on Thai airlines by the International Civil Aviation Organization. Plus, the airline plans to wait for the organization’s safety upgrade from Category 2 to 1 on the US Federal Administration’s list.
THAI is also looking to resume direct services to Moscow and Tehran prior to the high season in October.
