Ah, Fiji – the land of “bula”.
On our arrival, we are met with a warm welcome from the hotel staff. The friendly smiles not only make us feel instantly welcome, but also set a relaxing vibe for the entire stay.
One of the first things we noticed about the resort was the fresh and bright design; it’s a playful mix of contemporary styles with traditional Fijian elements. This is all topped, of course, with the French charme that comes complimentary with the Sofitel brand.
Mingle at Waitui Beach Club
There is plenty of space for guests to relax poolside or on the beach. For families, the hotel offers a large pool and many activities and water sports.
If your holiday is all about rest and relaxation, you’ll be happy to hear they also boast the adults-only Waitui Beach Club which features a large infinity pool, a swim-up bar, beautiful sun lounges and palm trees. Free cocktails and canapés between 5pm and 6pm every day are the cherry on top.
All resort guests can enjoy the hammocks dotted along the beach – great fun for the kids but also an opportunity to relax whilst reading a book or dozing off to the soundtrack of the ocean. They’re big enough so that if you’re sharing the trip with your partner, there’s enough room for a romantic sunset cuddle.
The calming So SPA
At the So SPA, we’re met by professional staff and more smiles. Here we pamper ourselves with a couple’s massage in one of the private bures – an hour-long Fiji-style full-body oil treatment. The finishing touch on our time here is an invitation to enjoy a glass of champers in the jacuzzi. Bliss.
Sofitel again does not disappoint with dining options. In the morning, we have a choice between a quiet pool and beachside à la carte breakfast at the Waitui Beach Club or an extensive buffet breakfast at Lagoon Restaurant. The latter offers fresh juice combinations of your choice pressed in front of your eyes as well as complimentary sparkling.
We’re spoilt for options at lunch and dinner as well. Salt, for instance, is the Sofitel’s al fresco beachside restaurant offering a large menu with all the classics. At Waitui Beach Club, guests can indulge in a share-style menu with tapas and wood fire pizza. For those who enjoy French labels, Bure du Vin offers a great selection of wines and hors d’oeuvres.
Salt boasts views of the ocean
The highlight of our trip is – without a doubt – a romantic dinner in the exclusive Salt Sensation Private Bure on the beach. We are treated to a culinary feast of local, French and international flavors while the setting sun delivers its best color show right over the Pacific Ocean. Florence, our personal waitress for the evening, ensures an unforgettable experience with her friendly and attentive service.
Relaxed from the spa and perfectly sated on food and wine, we finish off our evening taking in a Fijian fire dance on the beach – what more could we ask for?
