IN its first ever list of best cities in Asia, Lonely Planet has named Ipoh in Malaysia as one of Asia’s best destinations to visit in the next 12 months.
“At the heart of Ipoh’s renaissance is otherworldly concept hotel Sekeping Kong Heng, replete with glass attic rooms and wall-free rooftop quarters.
The travel guide continued, “But food pilgrims still clamour for Ipoh’s old favourites: Lou Wong’s chicken with crisp beansprouts, and tau fu fah (soy bean pudding) at Funny Mountain.”
Topping the list is Hokkaido in Japan followed by Shanghai, Jeonju in South Korea, and the Con Dao Islands in Vietnam.

The guide praised Hokkaido’s “year-round charms”, and “wild, mountainous landscapes” that beg exploration on foot, bike or motorcycle. Meanwhile, Shanghai was dubbed the “center of the universe”.
