SINGAPORE’s annual Archifest festival is back this year with more than 50 exhibitions, tours, talks and installations from Oct 4 to 15.
One of the more interesting events in conjunction with the festival is “Archi-Feast: The Architecture of Food” where the relationship between food and architecture will be questioned. “Foodie architects” will be called upon to “feed the city” by making a supersized edible diorama and screen a series of films curated by the Asian Film Archive (AFA).
In tune with the intersection of food and architecture, “The Great Architectural Bake-Off” will have you marvel at sculptures of iconic buildings by architects. A bonus: All sculptures are in the form of cake.
“Architecture With/Out Public” will feature “Migrant Art”, a collection of photographs that document the lives of migrant workers by migrant workers. Meanwhile, “Making Shadows” explores the built environment and public spaces through the eyes of migrant workers.
There are also loads of free events including walking tours with Gilles Massot, a respected photographer and arts educator. The walk will explore questions of core and periphery, old and new, and heritage and conservation with regards to Singapore’s changing urban landscape.
A particularly noteworthy free event is a poetry and music performance by migrant workers featuring winners from the Migrant Worker Poetry Competition. Meanwhile, homegrown piano movement Play It Forward will give old pianos a new lease of life by placing them in public spaces.
