The partnership kicks off with a special Star Wars festival in commemoration of the franchise’s 40th anniversary this year.
The “Star Wars Day: May the 4th Be With You” event will take place over three days in early May at Gardens by the Bay, followed by other franchise-related activities in the second half of 2017.
The highlight of the festival will undoubtedly be the “SaberTrees”, when the city-state’s famous Supertree Grove transforms to glow like the Jedi’s lightsaber.
The spectacular event, said to be Southeast Asia’s largest lightsaber light-up activation, will be complemented by a light and music show. There will also be interaction and photo opportunities with Chewbacca and Kylo Ren.
On May 6, a Star Wars run will take place, as well as a silent disco event and an outdoor screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, among other activities.
Singapore Tourism Board chief executive Lionel Yeo said: “Our collaboration with Disney will also offer plentiful opportunities for local event organisers and SMEs to grow their businesses and enhance their capabilities in world-class branded entertainment events.”
