ECONOMY class passengers flying Singapore Airlines (SIA) can now bid for upgrades to Premium Economy, according to TODAY Online.
Selected passengers will get an email invitation to bid for a seat upgrade seven days before their flight. Minimum and maximum bid values are assigned for each flight, and passengers can change their bid amount up to 50 hours before the flight.
According to SIA, successful bidders will receive an email notification about their seat upgrades about 40 hours before departure.
In a statement, SIA said, “This functionality will be gradually introduced across the network, and will provide customers another option to upgrade their class of travel, and enjoy greater levels of comfort when they fly.”
Although the airline said that the criteria used in the selection process is discretionary, bookings through the KrisFlyer program will be given priority.
Some of the other Asia-Pacific airlines that have introduced the bidding system is Malaysia Airlines, Etihad Airways and Qantas.
