KwaZulu Natal has engaged in discussions with SAA about the possibility of using its own aircraft on the Durban-Cape Town route.
SAA sells flights between Durban and Cape Town but flights are operated by Mango or SA Express.
ANC KZN Chairperson and MEC for Economic Development, Sihle Zikalala, told Tourism Update that KwaZulu Natal was pushing for SAA to use its own metal on the route to increase capacity and ensure further connectivity between the two cities.
“We are engaging with SAA and they are warm towards our request,” Sihle says.
In response, SAA spokesperson, Tlali Tlali, told Tourism Update the airline was not averse to the possibility of operating its own aircraft on the route. “For us to finally make that decision, we must be satisfied that the choice we make is operationally sound and commercially viable,” he says.
