JetBlue founder David Neeleman’s newly registered Azura Airways Corp. will be a charter air enterprise, not a commercial airline, Bloomberg reports.
Neeleman, who is also the founder of discount Canadian carrier WestJet and discount Brazilian carrier Azul, is listed as a principal in Azura, which was registered in Connecticut on July 13.
“I’m not starting an airline,” Neeleman told Bloomberg on Tuesday. “I’m helping out a couple of friends. It’s not like David Neeleman sees a great opportunity here. We’ll do a couple of planes and see how it goes.”
Neeleman did not respond to an emailed inquiry from Travel Weekly.
The charter enterprise could launch as soon as October. It will initially operate with two Bombardier CRJ-2000 regional jets, Neeleman adviser Trey Urbahn told Bloomberg, and will target corporations, university athletic programs and wealthy individuals who don’t own their own jets.
