Mugabe has resigned as president of Zimbabwe after a 37 year reign.
This follows the submission of a motion to impeach President Robert Mugabe in parliament on Tuesday, by Zanu PF that was seconded by opposition party MDC.
Mugabe was accused of allowing his wife to “usurp” power and of being too old to rule.
Zimbabwe opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, told a crowd outside Parliament that a democratic Zimbabwe could not be built by another un-democratic process.
On arrival at parliament to discuss the motion of impeachment, Tsvangirari said to protestors: “Never again must we have a situation where the people must take up arms against the government. What you have started will show that the liberation of Zimbabwe was not an end in itself. The liberation phase was one phase. The democratic phase was another phase. We are now finishing the agenda that the liberation fighters fought for.”
South African President, and Chairperson of SADC, Jacob Zuma is set to fly to Zimbabwe on Wednesday. This is according to Angolan President Joao Lourenco, following talks between regional leaders on the crisis in Zimbabwe.
