Since the November 1, Machu Picchu reopened to national tourists to promote domestic tourism, offering tours at 50% of the price before the pandemic.
The Government has scheduled the reopening of Machu Picchu to tourists on Sunday, November 1. As part of the reactivation of tourism, free entrance tickets to the Inca citadel were being offered, and are already sold out.
However, the domestic tourism campaign of Peru’s Commission for Promotion of Export and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) will also include affordable prices to visit Cusco and other cities in the interior of the country.
Carlos Canales, president of the National Chamber of Tourism (CANATUR), assured that prices will start at US$250, all-inclusive.
“You can travel to Machu Picchu from US$250 all-inclusive, with a plane ticket, lodging, train ticket, entrance, food, everything. Before, this package cost US$750 per person. Now it is the best opportunity to see the citadel,” told Mr. Canales.
In this first stage of reopening, the capacity to enter Machu Picchu will be cut to 30%, with a max daily entry of 675 people in groups of 8, including the tour guide.
The campaign will include other national destinations, such as the northern beaches and natural attractions of the Peruvian Amazonia in Loreto, San Martín and Ucayali.
In a press release, Peruvian Association of Travel Agencies and Tourism (APAVIT) said that discounts of up to 50% of pre-pandemic prices will be applied on all offers.
It is expected that by the end of this year, domestic tourism will earn about US$ 985 million in foreign exchange.
