SIX SENSES HOTELS RESORTS SPAS will be designing luxury satellite projects in five separate locations in Bhutan, all which will register under the umbrella of one name: Six Senses Bhutan.
The hotel interior in the capital of Thimphu emphasizes culture with an abundance of wood paneling, whitewashing, and natural stone. Here, old solid wood is repurposed into tables and bench tops while handcrafted brick is used in much of the structure.
In Bumthang, the surrounding forest landscape is highlighted with expansive windows looking out to the verdant woodlands. Natural palettes, recycled old wood, and patterned timber walls are heavily featured here.
Punakha is set up like a rustic farmhouse complete with mud brick features in the bathroom, light fittings made from mason jars, woven bamboo feature walls, as well as clever uses for rattan.

Moving on to Gangtey, the resort takes on uncluttered lines, natural palettes, timber flooring, and warm leather detailing. A unique feature here is the bird watching bridge where guests can get up close to rare species.
Finally, the lodge in Paro sits in the site of old ruins and has community-driven spots where guests can sit around open fires and share tales with other travelers. Renewable supplies and materials are heavily used here.
The ambitious resort is set to open in the second half of 2017, and will surely change the luxury sector in the increasingly popular region.
