Laurie Hernandez is a second generation Puerto Rican American, and the first Latina to make the U.S. Olympic team in over a decade (the only other Latinas to ever make the U.S. gymnast team were Cuban American Annia Hatch in 2004 and Mexican-American Tracee Talavera in 1980).
