IN typically extravagant fashion, Steve Wynn – chief executive officer of Wynn Resorts and a man with a flair for glitz – unveiled the ultra-luxury Wynn Palace, Macau’s newest luxury casino resort.
Steve Wynn said, “Wynn Palace is arguably the most beautiful hotel in the world, which is a wonderful thing to be able to say.”
Outside the hotel is an eight-acre Performance Lake and fountain show
“But it is not in London, Paris, New York or Rome. It is in Cotai, in Macau, and sits here for all the world to come and see. It’s our gift to the community, to the public. It will be here forever and it’s perhaps unlikely we’ll see a place of this scope and artfulness in our lifetimes again.”
If you have a hunch that Wynn is not a man of many subtleties, his new resort is aptly regal, what’s said to be his grandest statement yet.
You can shop for luxury goods in the property
The resort’s website describes the property as a “magnificent retreat that brings together elements that represent the finest in upscale resort living”.
The hotel holds 1,706 rooms, suites and villas, all which carry out customized beds, bedside consoles that can open and close your drapery, “oversized” HD televisions, and plenty of metallic gold accents.
The Palace Room is furnished with a custom pillow-top Dream bed fitted out with 507-thread count sheets made of Egyptian cotton, and floor-to-ceiling views of the glittering Macau skyline.

Meanwhile, the bathrooms feature Italian marble, his-and-hers vanity areas, glass-enclosed showers, deep-soaking bathtubs, and Coco & Tonka bath amenities. Just in case the need to watch the news in the shower strikes you, a 22-inch television is mounted on the wall.
Outside the hotel, one of the signature features is an eight-acre Performance Lake and fountain show fitted with 1,195 water jets shooting out eight million gallons of water in choreographed water fountain shows.

The hotel also holds a vast range of art pieces, collected over a period of six years and representing an investment of over US$125 million. Some of the pieces include a rare set of Qing dynasty vases whose only other set is on display at London’s Buckingham Palace.
“To be the prettiest hotel in the world, frankly, is something that money and good taste can buy. But to be the best hotel in the world is something else altogether,” Wynn said.
In terms of facilities and service, The Spa is said to be the biggest in Macau, and has an interior resembling the palaces of ancient China.

If you’d rather have your kinks ironed out in the privacy of your room, simply arrange for a masseuse to come up for a session in the designated spa area of your room.
CNBC reports that despite a strong mass market for casinos, the VIP gambling market is dwindling. Some industry analysts are more optimistic about the Palace’s outlook and point out that the megaresort is focusing on so-called premium mass gamblers rather than the VIP market.
Wynn himself is unflinching about the prospects of his new property. “In every business there are good years and bad years. For our return on investment, I expect we will be fine.”

After all, to Wynn, guest service is all that matters, and seems to be the overriding assurance to bring customers coming back.
“In any hospitality business there are only two words that matter – guest experience. All the rest is irrelevant, and all of the marble and crystal chandeliers, and all of the wonderful good taste that has been put into this building is dedicated to that one thing – guest experience.”
Heavily considered words for a man who built a multi-billion-dollar property across six-and-a-half-years.
