In October 2016, the Citi ThankYou program added a new transfer partner in JetBlue TrueBlue. Besides one instance when there was a 50% bonus, the transfer ratio has remained at a consistent 1,000:500 or 1,000:800, depending on which Citi credit card you have. Now, for a limited-time only, Citi is offering a 25% bonus when you transfer ThankYou points to TrueBlue between now and October 25, 2017.
As mentioned above, the exact ratio of points you’ll receive depends on which Citi credit card you have. Here’s a breakdown of each:
Is It Worth It?
We never recommend transferring points speculatively — no matter the program — because once they’re moved over, there’s no going back. However, if you’re sitting on a large stash of Citi ThankYou points and have some upcoming travel that you could book with JetBlue, this 25% bonus makes now a good time to initiate a transfer.
Keep in mind that JetBlue’s TrueBlue program is revenue-based, so the number of points needed for a ticket depends on the ticket’s cash price. With the best possible return (if you’re a Prestige, Premier or Chairman cardholder), you’ll be getting a 1:1 ratio on your ThankYou point to TrueBlue transfer. Even with this transfer bonus, there may be better uses for your ThankYou points — they’re worth 1.5 cents apiece compared to TrueBlue’s 1.3 cents per point in TPG’s latest valuations. However, if you have a JetBlue award that you’ve been wanting to book, there’s no doubt that this bonus will help your TrueBlue points go further.
If you’re looking to take advantage of this bonus, keep in mind you must transfer by October 25, 2017. If you don’t have a specific redemption in mind, we don’t advise transferring your points, as it’s a one-way option and you can’t transfer them back to ThankYou points.
