Many frequent travelers know that the Southwest Companion Pass is one of the most lucrative benefits out there. It allows the Companion Pass holder to add a friend or family member to any reservation that was paid for with either cash or points — just pay taxes and fees. There are a few ways to go about getting it, and now Southwest is targeting some Rapid Rewards members with a very cool opportunity to expedite the process.
Unfortunately, this offer is targeted, and only those who received either of the promotion emails from Southwest are eligible to take advantage. The TPG reader who sent in the news tip for California is based in Orange County, and his main airport is John Wayne (SNA), and the reader who sent in the news tip for Denver is based in the city. However, other California-based Rapid Rewards members we reached out to weren’t targeted for this offer, so it’s not clear exactly what the guidelines are for both promotions. At this point, it’s also not clear if this promotion exists for other cities or states outside of California and Denver.
If you were targeted for either of these offers, it’s a great opportunity to jump at one of the most lucrative rewards in the travel industry — especially considering Southwest’s low fares. Keep in mind there are other ways to earn the Companion Pass, including signing up for the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Card and its business version. Both cards come with a sign-up bonus of 50,000 points after you spend $2,000 in the first three months, putting you just shy of the 110,000 Rapid Rewards points required for the Companion Pass. Each card comes with a $99 annual fee.
