WORLD domination by delicious Asian cuisines looks set to continue with Filipino food being the hot pick for next global favorite culinary trend.
Asia, in general, dominates the trends for 2018, with Indian fast-casual street food and upscale Korean also being in the group’s forecast.
While popular Filipino dishes may not be rolling off the tongue just yet, with the help of worldwide Filipino communities, they soon will be. The proliferation of Filipino overseas workers means the unique culture and tastes are spilling into the streets and catching the attention of food critics and food appreciators alike.

Not to mention, it’s had some rather high-profile supporters of late. Celebrity chef and foodie powerhouse Anthony Bourdain has called Filipino food “underrated,” “ascendant” and a “work in progress.”
Bourdain labelled the fare the next big trend and thinks palates outside of the Philippines are ready for the taste sensation.
One of the dishes he particularly likes is called sisig, which is made from the snout, jowl, ear and tongue of a pig.
“I think sisig is perfectly positioned to win the hearts and minds of the world as a whole,” he told CNN.
“I think it’s the most likely to convince people abroad who have had no exposure to Filipino food to maybe look further and investigate further beyond sisig. I think that’s the one that’s gonna hook them.”
But Filipino food hasn’t always been on the good side of food critics. In 2015, Malaysian Chef Redzuawan Ismail, aka Chef Wan, said the country had the worst food in Asia – although, one suspects this may have been rooted in jealousy after the Philippines was voted second favorite culinary destination in an open Facebook poll.
The country’s rich and varied history has had a huge influence on the food. Colonized by Spain, Japan, and the United States, these cultures have come together to make a truly unique culinary experience.
So keep your eyes peeled for adobo making an appearance in an eatery near you soon!
