Stating the delays in minutes and aggregated is, whilst great to see, is not all that useful to the media or public generally. What matters to most is probably more a combination of which routes/destinations/airlines suffer from delays most frequently – information which then allows passengers to better plan their routes accordingly. Defining delay times more efficiently also brings more clarity to the story – being a few minutes delayed is one thing, being several hours delayed is another story entirely.
For example – Flights Statistics for May 2019 to Mallorca Airport
    Total : 19,604
    Delayed by 1+ minutes to 2:59: 3,440
    Delayed by 3+ hours: 46
    Cancelled: 61
When you look at the airlines with the highest “very delayed” flights – Air Arabia Maroc comes highest with 20% of it’s flights delayed, compared to Ryanair and Easy jet, which in comparison had only 1% “very delayed” – which also goes against the public assumption that the cheaper airlines tend to suffer delays more than most.
