If you’ve had a Marriott or Ritz-Carlton redemption in mind, good news: the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card is offering a limited-time, increased sign-up offer of 100,000 points after $5,000 spent in the first three months. The new offer is 20,000 more points than the previous offer of 80,000 points.
Marriott has been adjusting this card’s offer sporadically throughout the past year. We’ve seen 80,000-point offers a couple of times, as well as the standard 50,000-point offer. In addition, the business version of the card offered this 100,000-point offer once last year. In total, the 100,000 points from this offer are worth $900 based on TPG’s most recent valuations.
Offer Details
The card is the same compared to that of past offerings, however, the 100,000 points are what really make this stand out. In addition to the sign-up bonus, you’ll earn 7,500 bonus points when you add the first authorized user and they make a purchase within the first three months of account opening — effectively bringing the bonus up to 107,500, worth $968 based on TPG’s valuations. Here are some of the other highlights of the card:
- Earn 5 points per dollar at more than 5,700 participating Marriott Rewards and SPG hotels
- Earn 2 points per dollar on airlines tickets purchased directly with the airline, car rental agencies and at restaurants
- Earn 1 point per dollar on all other purchases
- Get one Free Night Stay at a Marriott Category 1-5 property each year after your account anniversary
- No foreign transaction fees
- Guaranteed Silver elite status, and receive 15 credits toward your next membership level after account approval and every year after your account anniversary
- Annual fee of $85
Is It Worth It?
The 100,000-point offer from the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card is one that’ll be hard to pass up if you’re looking to increase your stash of Marriott points. Compared to the standard sign-up bonus of 50,000 points and the elevated sign-up bonus of 80,000 points, you’re getting a substantial number of points here that could put you well on your way to your next redemption.
Based on TPG’s most recent valuations, we peg this 100,000-point sign-up bonus at being worth $900. And, based on your redemption with those points, you could be getting even more value out of them. Say, for example, you want to stay at the Category 8 Renaissance Paris Republique Hotel, which goes for 35,000 points at the PointSavers level. Rates at the property start at 291 euro (~$327) per night for a weekend stay in the early summer. You’d be able to get two nights for free with the sign-up bonus, and you’d probably be able to cover the remainder of the award (5,000 points) with the points earned from meeting your minimum spend.
In addition to the sign-up bonus, you’ll also get one free night at a Category 1-5 property, which could offer some pretty good value. In addition, you’ll get complimentary Silver status as long as you’re a cardholder, which gets you a 20% point bonus, late checkout, elite guest services lines and discounts — worth $75 based on our 2017 valuations. Plus, you’ll earn 1 additional credit toward elite status for every $3,000 you spend — with no limits.
Bottom Line
This new limited-time 100,000-point sign-up bonus for the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card is a great opportunity to stock up on Marriott points. Especially with peak summer rates right around the corner, now could be an especially great time to sign up and get the most value out of your points when nightly rates are at a premium.
Remember that there is another sign-up offer for the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card out there right now: Earn up to 150,000 points. However, the offer isn’t your standard sign-up bonus. You’ll earn 5 points per dollar on all purchases up to $30,000 in the first year, totaling 150,000 points. Note that in order to get all of those points, you have to spend $30,000 in the first year. If you do plan on spending that much, it could be a good option, but if you’re more of an average spender, the 100,000-point offer may be better for you.
Also remember that since the Marriott card is a Chase-issued card, you’re only eligible for the bonus if you haven’t received a sign-up offer for this same product in the past 24 months. If you haven’t received the offer in the past 24 months, this is surely an enticing offer to take advantage of before it’s gone.
