If you’re looking to boost your Hilton HHonors account balance, these increased sign-up bonuses could be of interest. The Hilton HHonors Surpass Card from American Express is currently offering 100,000 bonus points after you spend $3,000 in the first three months. This card comes along with a $75 annual fee. Additionally, the no-fee Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card is currently offering 75,000 points after you spend $2,000 in the first three months — 35,000 more points than the standard offer.
We last saw this same sign-up bonus for the Citi card back in June, and now as before it’s a good opportunity to earn significantly more points toward a Hilton award stay. Based on TPG’s valuations, 75,000 points are worth $375, and the extra 35,000 points you’ll get over the regular offer are worth $175. As always, though, those rewards can be worth more or less depending on how you redeem them, with expensive properties getting you the best value. As for the Surpass card, you’ll get an additional 25,000 points over the no-fee card (worth $125) with an additional $1,000 spending requirement, plus the $75 fee.
Here’s a look at the Hilton HHonors Surpass Card‘s benefits and earning rates:
- Limited time offer: Earn 100,000 bonus points after you spend $3,000 in purchases on the card within your first 3 months of card membership. Offer ends 11/30/2016.
- Enjoy complimentary Hilton HHonors Gold status with your card.
- Earn 12x bonus points for each dollar of eligible purchases charged directly with a participating hotel or resort within the Hilton portfolio.
- $75 annual fee
Meanwhile, here’s a recap of the Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card‘s benefits and earning rates:
- For a limited time: Earn 75,000 Hilton HHonors bonus points after making $2,000 in purchases within the first three months of account opening.
- Earn 6 HHonors bonus points for each $1 spent at any participating hotel within the Hilton portfolio.
- Earn 3 HHonors bonus points for each $1 spent on purchases at supermarkets, drugstores and gas stations.
- Earn 2 HHonors bonus points for each $1 spent on all other purchases.
- Enjoy the benefits of HHonors Silver status as long as you are a cardmember.
- No annual fee
Are These Offers Worthwhile?
If you’re interested in booking a Hilton award stay, both the Hilton HHonors Surpass Card and the Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card could be worth adding, especially now that they’re offering a higher than usual sign-up bonus. While you do have to spend $3,000 in the first three months to earn the 100,000 points, or $2,000 in the first three months to earn the 75,000 points, the extra points can definitely be worth it if you plan on using points at a Hilton property with expensive cash rates.
For example, the 75,000 points you’ll earn if you meet the no-fee card’s spending requirement could get you a free night at the Category 8 Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort, where award nights are going for as little as 64,400 points in early November. If you’re able to earn some bonus points as you work toward the minimum spending requirement, or if you manage to score the Surpass card’s 100,000-point bonus, you could book a free night at higher-end properties, such as 80,000 points for a stay at the Conrad London St. James. On the other end of the spectrum, these bonus points can get you far at lower-level Hilton property like the Category 2 Hampton Inn & Suites Mexico City, where free nights go for just 10,000 points.
Sign-up bonus aside, these card offers complimentary HHonors status — Gold with the Surpass card and Silver with the no-fee Citi card. Gold elites can enjoy benefits like a 25% points bonus on Hilton stays, room upgrades, complimentary breakfast and more, while Silver gets you a 15% points bonus, a fifth night free on award stays and two complimentary bottles of water (both of which are also Gold status perks). These Silver benefits may not be earth-shattering, but the free breakfast available to Gold members can end up saving you quite a bit on longer stays.
Keep in mind that these aren’t the only cards to consider if you’re interested in earning HHonors points. The Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card currently earns a spot on TPG’s list of top credit card offers thanks to its offer of two free weekend nights at participating Hilton hotels after you spend $2,500 on the card in the first four months. While this card does charge a $95 annual fee, you do get Hilton Gold status. It also offers cardholders the opportunity to upgrade to HHonors Diamond status when they spend $40,000 on the card in a calendar year.
Bottom Line
If you’ve been considering signing up for a Hilton HHonors credit card, now’s a great time to pull the trigger since you’ll earn many more points with these elevated offers. And, if you opt for the Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card, you won’t need to worry about paying an annual fee.
