REMEMBER SEVERAL MONTHS AGO the reports that the Dutch police were training eagles to attack drones? To refresh your memory watch this video:
It was announced earlier this week that after all their testing they are going ahead with the plan to use eagles to bring down rogue drones that might be causing a threat to the public. According to The Guardian, the Dutch police will become “the world’s first force to employ eagles as winged warriors.” In addressing concerns from animal rights groups police spokesman Dennis Janus said, “none of the eagles were hurt.” The idea is to use the birds to snatch drones in situations like sensitive state visits and if they’re flying too close to airports. As many as 100 officers will be trained as part of the eagle team and the program could be put into use by next summer.
