IT’S ALWAYS FUN to travel to a new destination, to do and experience new things.
Travelers tend to pick up souvenirs or keep safe the items that they can use as mementos. The more they collect, the more memories they will have, which translates into the more travel bragging rights.
Let’s face it, we all have that one friend who collects customized Starbucks Coffee mugs printed with the name of the outlet’s city or country, or know someone who likes gifting or collecting “I love” destination T-shirts.
Whatever your travel “poison” is, here are some decades-old travel mementos that don’t go out of style. Well, at least not yet.
Keychains
Keychains are not only fun to collect, they also make great and practical travel souvenirs for your family, friends, and loved ones – especially personalized ones.
It’s always fun to rummage through rows upon rows of keychains to find the “Michael” or “Armin” or “Anna” that you’ve been looking for.
Also, you can’t leave Turkey or Israel without buying an iconic nazar, an eye-shaped amulet believed to protect against the evil eye, on a keychain.
Postcards
Some people like collecting stamps, some people like collecting postcards.
Some will even go to the extent of posting postcards to their home address when they travel so that they’ll get both the stamp and the postcard and a nice note all at the same time to remind them of their holiday.
Postcards are a cheap and easy way to hold on to your memories and if you’re traveling to several places at once over a long stretch of time, they function like timestamps.
Figurines
For some reason, there’s a lot that loves collecting “Mini-me” versions of popular landmarks and figures.

From the Statue of Liberty in New York to the maneki-neko (Japanese lucky cat), or a miniature Buddha from Chatuchak Market in Thailand, you’ll find these proudly showcased side-by-side in its own display shelf.
One thing to note though: they’ll run the risk of that tiny Eiffel Tower or Taj Mahal collecting dust in a corner deep inside the shelf, which can be a challenge to clean.
Stubs
Some travelers are collectors of random bits and bobs: bank notes, boarding passes, restaurant or cafe business cards, ticket stubs, Polaroid pictures, receipts, hotel key cards.
They would never throw away that boarding pass from their trip to Japan five years ago, or toss that ticket stub from the South Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) tour into the bin.
Well, they could be onto something because these things are easy to be made into a collage and framed up for display or scrapbooked.
Fridge magnets

Said to be the easiest, most foolproof way of tracking your travels, collecting fridge magnets is a classic travel trend. And fridge magnets can add art and colors to otherwise boring refrigerator doors.
It’s a great conversation starter and something than likeminded travelers will love. It’s also more sensible than buying mugs because how many mugs can you store in your pantry?
The next time you’re visiting a traveler’s house, check out their refrigerator’s doors and see if you can pick out any interesting magnets or if you’ve been to the same places.
