Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend that you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency, such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using the American Express Platinum Card, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.
Wow Air announced $69 flights from the US to Europe yesterday, but even though those extremely low fares to onward European destinations are gone, we’re still seeing amazing fares to Iceland. You can fly from the US to Reykjavik (KEF) from just $249 round-trip from Boston (BOS). Availability is fairly limited for departures from January through May 2017. There are deals to be had from the West Coast, too. Flights from San Francisco (SFO) to Reykjavik (KEF) can be had for just $280 round-trip.
Keep in mind that Wow Air is a budget airline so you’ll be paying extra fees if you want to choose your seat or check a bag, but we’ve had good experiences with Wow. If you’re using Google Flights to find your desired itinerary, you may have to take advantage of the separate tickets feature in order to find the cheapest prices.
