Canada’s Girl Guides has canceled all trips to the United States until further notice.
The Girl Guides are Canada’s equivalent to the Girl Scouts — they’re a diverse and inclusive organization centered around empowering and educating young girls and women. Many of the participating girls are refugees and immigrants. President Trump’s Travel Ban, which targets citizens and refugees of six Muslim-majority countries, has left the organization’s leaders and parents concerned that some of the girls may be rejected at a United States border. Therefore, they’ve decided to cancel all upcoming U.S. trips indefinitely, including those that pass through an American airport. Girl Guides of Canada made a statement on its Facebook page that the decision “reflects our commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunities for all girls and women.”
