ABOUT 8,500 visitors streamed into Underwater World Singapore and Dolphin Lagoon for the final time last weekend as the Sentosa attractions shut its doors after 25 years of operation.
The oceanarium is one of Singapore’s most beloved tourist attractions and boasted hundreds of marine species such as moray eels, sea lions and sting rays.
According to operator Haw Par, the facility ceased operations as its lease will expire in a couple of years. To ensure that the transfer and relocation of the animals take place smoothly, the operators decided to shut the doors well before its end-of-lease date.
So far, the pink dolphins, otters and fur seals have been transferred to Chimelon Ocean Kingdom in Zhuhai, China.
In its last month of operations, the aquarium offered slashed admission prices, propelling large crowds from Singapore and Malaysia before its final days.
