Botswana’s Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism (MENT) and the Botswana Tourism Organisation have noted reports of congestion and feedback on tourism activities that are ongoing in Khwai concession (NG19) with great concern.
In a recently released statement, Opelo July, Permanent Secretary, said: “While NG19 does not fall within the Tourism Land Bank as yet, MENT has committed to developing a management plan for it, which will determine carrying capacities for both accommodation facilities and vehicles within this wildlife management area.”
The management plan is expected to ease the congestion by serving as a guide on regulations and monitoring of activities, facilities and developments within NG19.
July urged tourists and members of the public to verify the availability of the tourism facilities in the area before booking as some may have invalid licences.
The Khwai Concession is in the extreme northeast of the Okavango Delta and is currently under the management of Tawana Land Board.
