THE son of China’s richest man and billionaire tycoon Wang Jianlin has launched Wanda Reign on the Bund in Shanghai, an over-the-top “seven-star” property said to rival the lavish Burj Al Arab in Dubai.
The result of the partnership resulted in a sleek, modern exterior combining patterns and designs influenced by old Shanghai elements with classical architecture. The property is set along the Huangpu River and offers views of The Bund.

The hotel’s interior – drawn up by Wanda Design Institute – inherits Shanghai’s cultural art elements from the ’20s and ’30s such as magnolias and Suzhou embroidery. Plus, it houses art and antiques crafted by renowned Chinese contemporary artists.
The 193 guestrooms are not subtle in their opulence with details like mahogany burl wood, magnolia embroideries and calming beige tones. Each room has iPad smart in-room control and a marble bathroom with in-built floor-heating system.
All guests are entitled to Wanda’s signature “Dream Catcher” service where fragrance, music and bedtime reading amenities are provided to ease guests’ sleep. Plus, for extra privacy, each room door is fitted with a digital mini screen peephole with images that can be viewed on the LCD TV.
Meanwhile, the suites feature an advanced massage chair from Ogawa, a 55-inch Bang & Olufsen LCD TV, 5.1 Sound Bar system and Hermes personal care amenities. The Chairman Suite has a separate dining area, bar, pantry, study room, a master bathroom with a sauna, and a massage bathtub.

Owner Wang Sicong has made headlines for his extravagant lifestyle and expenditures. He was recently reported to have blown US30,000 at a nightclub and a separate US$380,000 at a karaoke bar.
His father also made news recently for unveiling his new Wanda City theme park in Nanchang, an entertainment complex set to rival the newly launched Disneyland Shanghai.
