Carnival Cruise Line won’t continue its Carnival Live concert series. The line had been hosting concerts by well-known rock, country and R&B acts since 2014.
Acts such as Jewel, Journey, LeAnn Rimes and Smokey Robinson were presented in Carnival ship theaters, typically while the ships were docked in ports such as Nassau and Cozumel. The artists would then debark before the ship sailed.
Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen said that while the concerts will no longer be offered as a scheduled program, concerts will happen “on an ad hoc basis as a surprise-and-delight moment for our guests.”
The most recent Carnival Live concert with pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen on the Carnival Splendor in February had a different format, with Jepsen performing on the lido deck at no charge.
When Carnival Live debuted in 2014, tickets cost $20 to 40 and a limited number of VIP tickets were available for $100 to $150.
Carnival staged 49 shows in the first year, including concerts by Chicago, Olivia Newton-John, Lady Antebellum and Martina McBride.
No other cruise line has regularly presented top-name entertainment in a series such as Carnival Live.
