AUSTRALIA’S Mantra Group is jumping aboard the Pokémon GO craze by offering free lures to increase players’ chances of catching virtual pocket monsters, as well as encouraging gamers to “Pokestop By Our Bar”.
Mantra 2 Bond Street in Sydney is calling on fans of the augmented reality game to stop by the hotel bar at 3pm every Friday to Pokestop, and get a free bowl of fries thrown in with any drink purchase.
Meanwhile, fans in Melbourne can do the same at Mantra on Little Bourke while enjoying happy hour deals.
Mantra Group executive director marketing and digital Matt Granfield said the free Pokémon GO Lures will encourage the spawning of valuable in-game creatures at two of the group’s tech-savvy city properties.
“We’re always keen to find new and innovative ways of making our hotels great places to stay, so helping our guests catch a few extra Pokémon during their stay was a no-brainer,” he said.
Since the launch of Pokémon GO this month, the app has recorded more active daily users than Twitter, and one in five Australian Android users are said to have installed the app on their devices.
Consequently, one in 10 hotels have looked to capitalize on the craze. Based on data from Ryan Solutions, 9.2 percent of the 5,000 hotel and resort Twitter accounts it analyzed this month mentioned Pokemon at least once between July 6 and 17.
Hotels in Southeast and East Asia might soon get a chance to jump on the bandwagon, with rumours circulating that the game will soon be launched in Asia beyond its official releases in Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Germany and the U.S.
According to Tech Wire Asia, developers are aiming to launch the hit game in approximately 200 countries and regions “relatively soon” as they continue to work on boosting the server capacity to handle a wider release.
