Amazon Prime Day Is Coming — Here’s How to Get the Most Bang For Your Buck

It seems we might have a hint as to when this year’s Amazon Prime Day will take place.

As Tech Radar reports, the unconfirmed date was accidentally posted on an Amazon UK website banner earlier this week. According to the now-deleted blunder, Amazon Prime Members can expect a day-and-a-half of deals on July 16 and 17.

Prime Day, which started in 2015, is like Amazon’s own version of Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Shoppers can expect deep discounts from the mammoth online retailer — especially for its proprietary items like the Amazon Kindle and Amazon Echo.

Although the leaked date is still unconfirmed, it would historically fit with the past three Prime Days, all of which have fallen somewhere right around the second week of July.

If 2018’s Prime Day is 36 hours, that would be the longest window of time for the sale since its inception. That means more time browsing for deals.

To get the most value out of Prime Day shopping, you’ll probably want to snag the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card. This card gives you 5% back on all Amazon and Whole Foods purchases (you also get 2% back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores and 1% back on all other purchases). The card has no annual fee. Of course, you must be an Amazon Prime member to qualify.

As TPG Associate Editor Brendan Dorsey recently wrote, the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card is probably your best bet to earn straight cash back on your Amazon purchases.

There are some other options to maximize your upcoming Prime Day spend. As TPG‘s Benji Stawski writes, the Chase Freedom Unlimited, Discover it card, Citi Double Cash Card and the Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express all have their own merits when making Amazon purchases. But for the purposes of simply furthering the already-slashed prices for this upcoming special sale, the Prime Rewards card is hard to beat.

Luckily, if you don’t yet have the Prime Rewards card, the leaked date (which we still don’t know for sure) has given you time to apply and put that 5% cash back to work for you when the sale hits.
