Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency, such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm EST within one day of booking. However, if you’re using the American Express Platinum Card, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation.
It seems that Air New Zealand is offering a somewhat rare mistake fare from Los Angeles (LAX) to Auckland (AKL), with tickets from just $533 round-trip. Tickets appear to only be available through Priceline, so begin your search there. We’re seeing these cheap fares between February and March 2018. The fares we’ve found are nonstop, but there are also some flights with one stop in San Francisco (SFO).
Because this is a mistake fare, you should hold off on making any additional, non-refundable plans in Auckland until you receive your confirmation number and itinerary. There’s no telling if Air New Zealand will honor this ticket. However, if you do want to take advantage, this is a great opportunity to fly to New Zealand on the cheap — fares usually hover around the $1,000 mark.
