Airlink is investigating the possibility of reintroducing flights to Margate.
CEO, Rodger Foster, told Tourism Update that there was new evidence of the willingness of passengers to and from Margate to pay a premium airfare for the convenience of direct services. “Accordingly, Airlink is investigating the possibility of returning to Margate,” Foster says, adding that no final decision has been made as to whether or when the airline may do so.
Airlink provided uninterrupted services to Margate from 1992 until April 2009, when services were discontinued due to a planned closure of the airport (which never materialised) for significant refurbishments and runway upgrades, and also because of a substantial decline in demand, says Foster.
