Aeromexico will make Detroit its 17th U.S. destination following the formal approval last week of its antitrust-immune partnership with Delta.
Tickets for daily flights beginning April 2 between Mexico City and Detroit went on sale last Friday.
Aeromexico’s Mexico City-Detroit flight will augment the daily flight Delta already operates on that route. No other airline serves the city pair.
In order to receive antitrust immunity from the DOT, Delta and Aeromexico had to agree to surrender 24 daily departure and landing slots at Mexico City’s Benito Juarez Airport, where they currently control nearly half the slots.
They also agreed to divest four daily slots at capacity-constrained Kennedy Airport in New York.
The slots are to be turned over to low-cost carriers.
Under their joint venture, Aeromexico and Delta are allowed to jointly schedule, market and operate flights.
