Abelana Safari Camp, a tented camp in Abelana Game Reserve, Limpopo, is set to open next month. Bookings are now open.
The camp offers walking trails and horse safaris in the 15 000 hectare Big Five reserve, which is owned by the Mashishimale community and leased by MTH Lodge Holdings.
The reserve is located between Hoedspruit and Phalaborwa and adjacent to the Greater Kruger’s Balule Nature Reserve and neighbouring Selati Private Game Reserve It features granite outcrops and a 10km stretch of the semi-perennial Selati River.
The camp accommodates eight guests in five Meru-style en-suite luxury tents. There is a central lounge and dining area, a fire pit and a 100 sqm viewing deck, offering panoramic views of the entire reserve and the waterhole below. The camp has a light carbon footprint with solar power and gas geysers.
The area surrounding Abelana Safari Camp can be explored on foot and on horseback, and experienced Guide Trainer, John Fouche, will lead guests on morning walking safaris and afternoon game drives. Tamlyn Whitebread heads up the camp’s horse safaris.
A second accommodation offering, the 20-room Makubu Lodge, will open early next year.
