The Florida Keys’ Hawks Cay Resort will reopen its main hotel on Aug. 30 after being closed for almost a year due to damage sustained during Hurricane Irma.
The resort, one of the largest in the Keys, reopened most of its 250 villas in March. Hawks Cay also reopened its spa, kids center, Angler and Ale restaurant and one pool n March.
A $50 million renovation gives the property two new restaurant concepts, an expanded adults-only area as well as a new look for its lobby, 177 guestrooms and public areas in the main hotel.
Hawks Cay calls the new look “coastal-inspired decor” that incorporates natural seaside elements.
A new fine-dining restaurant, Sixty-one Prime, will serve steaks and seafood. The restaurant will replace the Latin-inspired Alma, its former fine-dining restaurant, in a completely renovated space.
Sixty-one Prime will offer the resort’s first private dining experience, with table service in the guestrooms or around the Saltwater Lagoon, the property’s private enclosed beach. A new fast-casual option, Hawks Cay Marketplace, will sell salads, sandwiches and pizzas to go.
Also new is the expanded Oasis Cay, an area for guests 21 and older. The adults-only Tranquility Pool has been expanded to include its own bar and grill.
“We’ve focused on the physical changes of the main resort area, but we’ve also taken this opportunity to spend a lot of creative moments on the experiential programming for guests,” said Sheldon Suga, Hawks Cay Resort’s managing director.
Hawks Cay, located in the Middle Keys near Marathon, is the Florida Keys’ largest resort when including its villas, which give the property 420 rooms spread out over 60 acres on Duck Key.
