When staying at a hotel, it’s easy to come to the conclusion that it’s a good, quality brand and evaluate how your stay was. But one thing that’s easy to overlook is the impact your stay has — or could have — on the rest of the world. That’s where The Purpose Hotel comes in.
The Purpose Hotel is an idea launched by Nashville native Jeremy Cowart in which the same hotel that travelers stay in will work to create a world of difference in global humanitarian efforts. While the first Purpose Hotel will be in Nashville, Cowart has plans to eventually expand the chain on a global level, with properties in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, London, Geneva, Rio de Janeiro and Mumbai, among other cities.
But how exactly will Purpose Hotels make a difference? According to the hotel’s KickStarter campaign page, “Every time you book a room, a child gets sponsored, the internet fee fights human trafficking and every product — soap, shampoo, linens, furniture, curated art, specialty products — is purchased from partners who are making a difference.” So, not only will the brand be generating support for good causes, it’ll be providing travelers with a comfortable, high-class hotel stay at the same time.
Each room will also sponsor a child and tell his or her story. Guests will be able to see which parts of the room are helping to make a difference, and would be given a detailed description on their hotel bill at check-out.
Right now, The Purpose Hotel is still in the KickStarter stage of development, and those who become backers are entitled to special treatment at all properties once they’re completed. As of this writing, there are 1,606 backers who have pledged a total of $226,317. The campaign has a goal of raising $2,000,000 by September 2, 2016, so there’s still plenty of time left to get involved and support the campaign.
With a pledge of $75 or more, you’ll be considered a Co-Founder Legacy of The Purpose Hotel. This title entails selecting a photo of yourself, which will then be included on the wall of the original Nashville location as well as in every future Purpose Hotel. Additional backing options include a stay at the hotel (after it’s built), a coffee table and the chance to have a room featuring your name or dedicated to a loved one, among other sweet perks.
This is a really neat project, and one that can make for both a comfortable stay for travelers and help to create positive change in the world. Although The Purpose Hotel only has plans to break ground in Nashville as its first location, it’s a worthy cause to get involved with — even if that means forgoing a stay at your beloved hotel chain of choice every once in a while.
