GOING ON VACATION somewhere halfway across the globe, discovering a whole new world, and making those once-in-a-lifetime memories is one of the best things about traveling.
But not all of us are photography professionals and it is likely we will not be able to afford expensive photography equipment. Not when we have already spend a fortune on our vacation.
Luckily, we live in a time so technologically advanced, even mid-range smartphone cameras should be able to get you quite an impressive photo quality.
You are not even required to learn how to tinker around the manual mode settings because the auto mode can take a wide range of photos in different conditions such as weather, lighting focus.
The only thing left to do is to put the finishing touches before uploading your shots to the social media platform of your choice then watch the likes and the hearts fly.
Here are some of the best photo editing apps out there:
VSCO
First released in 2011, VSCO (formerly known as VSCO Cam), allows users to capture photos in the app or load one from the gallery and edit them with its filters.
Photographers and self-professed hipsters love it for its soft, natural-looking filters that are so subtle, it almost resembles the unedited photo.
To download and use the app is free, but you may need to purchase some in-app filters if you want more variety.
Users can also publish their photography and gain recognition in the VSCO community through a public journal.
Afterlight
Afterlight (formerly known as Afterglow) is an app that claims to be “the most powerful, full-featured photo editing experience on mobile” – and it is not far from the truth.
Like VSCO, it allows the user to take a photo or load one and adjust it with the readily available powerful and snappy tools such as filters, film, modify, and frame.
One important thing to note, though: Afterlight is not free to download and additional tools require a user to make in-app purchases.
But hey, we say it is worth buying because it has everything that you would need to adjust, crop, flip, and filter your prized pictures.
Snapseed
This is a go-to app for most travel photographers thanks to its professional-level photo editing and intuitive but simple interface.
Also released in 2011, the Google-owned Snapseed was rated as one of the top 100 best Android apps of 2018 by PC Magazine.
The app has dozens of tools to edit (tune, crop, sharpen) your images as well as advanced brush tools so you can adjust specific areas of your pictures.
For something that is free to download, it sure does give an impressive amount of control over what you can do with your edits.
Prisma
Want to put some fun into an otherwise stocky-looking collection of travel photos? Prisma is your go-to.
The app utilizes a neural network and artificial intelligence (AI) to transform the image into an artistic effect – and it can get pretty addictive.
Turn your standard photo of a scenery or a selfie into a work of art through the use of filters such as those that mimic the skills of Van Gogh and Picasso.
Prisma is free, and it comes with more than 40 free filters (and counting), and will even allow users to create a profile and connect with friends.
Alternatively, you could stick to using the standard Instagram filters, which are already pretty good and best of all, requires no in-app purchases.
Simply take a picture or load one, select the filter you want to use, then alter the strength using the slider.
You can also tweak the filter using the edit button and adjust the brightness, contrast, warmth, saturation, sharpness, and more.
Then you know the drill: Add a caption and geotag your image if you wish before sharing it with your followers.
