COME MARCH 2019, Japan will be awash with pastel pink and soft white as the cherry blossom trees make their highly anticipated annual appearance.
This is why throngs of travelers from all around the world flock to various places in Japan in the months of March and April, depending on the cherry blossom forecast.
However, Japan is not the only destination in Asia which will host the enchanting cherry blossoms. From 14th to 17th November, Shillong in India will host the third edition of the India International Cherry Blossom Festival.
Located in northeast India, Shillong is a hill station and the capital of the state of Meghalaya. It is known for its picturesque lush nature, from its manicured gardens at Lady Hydari Park to the nearby Ward’s Lake surrounded by walking trails.
It is cold for the most part of the year and during year end, it makes for the perfect unique autumn flowering of Himalayan cherry blossoms.
Shillong is also known for its abundance of tea and markets selling indigenously produced crafts such as handwoven shawls, and these will be highlighted during the India International Cherry Blossom Festival as well.
The India International Cherry Blossom Festival will be held at Polo Grounds, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, and State Convention Centre, among other venues. Visitors can also enjoy a romantic night stroll under beautifully lit up cherry blossom trees at Ward’s Lake.
