United will open a Polaris lounge in Newark Liberty Airport on June 4.
The opening follows United’s April unveiling of its Polaris lounge in San Francisco as it moves to deploy the high-end product more broadly following a rollout delay. Polaris openings in Houston and Los Angeles are scheduled for the summer and fall, respectively.
United opened its first Polaris lounge at Chicago O’Hare in November 2016 ahead of the early 2017 launch of its first aircraft configured with the new Polaris business-class pods.
But after that, the lounge program stalled. The carrier had planned to have nine Polaris lounges open by early this year, but instead its next opening was the one in San Francisco in April. In the meantime, United expanded the Chicago lounge due to overcrowding.
The carrier experienced similar delays in the introduction of Polaris-configured aircraft. The first such plane launched in February 2017, but United only had 24 aircraft equipped with the pods as of mid-April. United now expects to introduce a Polaris-configured plane every 10 days through 2020.
The Polaris lounge n Newark, located between gates C102 and C120, encompasses more than 27,000 square feet and has 455 seats.
Features include 10 private daybeds, 10 shower suites, personal valet service and a dining area with table service for up to 48 people. The lounge also offers a buffet with a do-it-yourself bagel bar, sandwiches, salads and cheeses.
The new lounge will be open to those who hold a first-class or business-class boarding pass from Newark on a United flight or flight operated by another Star Alliance airline.
