SBE is making Covid-19 tests available at select U.S. hotels, with SLS, Hyde and Mondrian properties in Miami and Los Angeles among the group’s first to debut on-site testing.
PCR, rapid antigen, antibody and self-administered PCR tests for guests and employees are currently available at Miami’s SLS South Beach and Hyde Midtown hotels. The SLS Brickell and SLS LUX Brickell in Miami and the Mondrian Los Angeles are set to roll out their own testing programs on Feb. 1.
In Miami, on-site testing is being handled by BlueMed Consultants, with PCR results promised within 24 hours and antigen results returned in 10 minutes. Self-administered PCR tests, provided by PreCheck by X.labs, have a results turnaround of 24 to 72 hours.
Guests at the Miami properties will be able to schedule test appointments for between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. daily.
In Los Angeles, the self-administered test from PreCheck by X.labs will be available, with guests able to request it upon booking or arrival.
Testing is free for Americans with medical insurance. Insured Miami employees are also able to get the tests for no charge. For international and uninsured guests, testing prices range from $70 to $175.
SBE, which is part of the Accor portfolio, recently announced that on-site Covid-19 testing will be available at its SLS Baha Mar property in the Bahamas when it reopens March 4.
While hotels and resorts throughout the Caribbean and Mexico have been aggressive in their ramp up of on-site testing in response to changing CDC travel requirements, U.S. hoteliers have been much slower to add the amenity.
In recent months, however, on-property testing has started to gain traction stateside, with SBE emerging as one of the highest-profile hospitality players to pioneer the trend. Other U.S. properties that have also recently debuted on-site testing programs include the W South Beach and the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa in Florida and the Nobu Hotel Palo Alto in California, among others.
