Sarova Hotels has taken over the management of the private camp, Spirit of the Masai Mara, in Kenya.
The lodge is in the Siana conservancy, in its own secluded valley overlooking the Masai National Reserve.
Clients arrive in Nairobi from where they take a light aircraft for a 45 minute flight over the Rift Valley to the Siana Airstrip, where they are met by safari vehicles to take them to the lodge.
Spirit of the Masai Mara comprises ten air-conditioned suites, each with a private bar and en-suite bathroom with a bathtub and shower. Each suite has a private verandah overlooking the Siana Conservancy.
There is a lodge bar, and guests can enjoy meals prepared by in-house chefs. The lodge offers sundowners, followed by a short night game drive, as well as bush dinners, where the menu is cooked by the lodge’s chefs alfresco.
Activities include game drives, bush walks and hiking tours in the Siana Conservancy. The trained guides will ensure guests’ safety at all times, as well as explaining to them the different shrubs and trees that are often used for traditional medicine, as well as the tracks and spoor of the various animals. Hot-air balloon safaris are also on offer, followed by a champagne breakfast.
The Spirit of the Masai Mara supports local community projects in the area, focusing on education, employment and livelihoods. The lodge recently co-ordinated funding to build classrooms at the Seknani Secondary School, which was opened by the local Member of Parliament in April last year.
